
Carnegie Celebrates World Poetry Day 2025!
Join ACFLAMH as we recognize and honor the poetic traditions of the many countries and world cultures represented among the diverse residents of Carnegie. Learn about some of the most cherished and beloved poets of world history as Carnegie residents share their lives and work. Hear sublime poems read in languages like Arabic, Ukrainian, Tamil, and more – including English translations of each poem!
Carnegie native and Pitt professor of poetry Fred Shaw will be our host and emcee. Following the poetry readings, enjoy an array of international foods prepared by immigrant women through ANSAR of Pittsburgh while you browse our display of original poetry by Carlynton students.
World Poetry Day was created by UNESCO in 1999 and is observed on March 21 annually.

Reggie Watkins – “Rivers” Album Release Concert
Carnegie resident and jazz artist Reggie Watkins will hold the official Album Release Concert for his new CD “Rivers,” on the Music Hall Stage.
Reggie’s artistry will be on full display as the show promises to be a one-of-a-kind and memorable night of creative music. The show will feature the group from the CD, Reggie Watkins – trombone, Michael Bernabe – piano, Eli Naragon -bass and Jason Washington Jr. – drums, as well as some special guest performers.

Pittsburgh Classic Movie Club presents Spring Suspense Classics: “Niagara” (1953)
Thrilling, edge-of-your-seat suspense is in store with the Pittsburgh Classic Movie Club’s Spring Suspense Classics series!
Niagara (1953), directed by Henry Hathaway. When two couples meet while vacationing at Niagara Falls, a sordid murder plot comes to the fore. Starring Marilyn Monroe and Joseph Cotten.

Family Movie Night: “Mavka: The Forest Song” (2023)
Join the ACFLAMH for a free screening of the beloved Ukrainian children’s film, Mavka: The Forest Song! The screening will take place Thursday, April 3rd, 5:30 – 7:30 pm in the Music Hall. The film runtime is 99 minutes. Please note that food is not permitted in the Music Hall.

Spring Job Fair with JFCS
JFCS is hosting a Spring Job Fair at the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall! Connect with local employers and explore job opportunities in a variety of industries. Open to adults seeking full-time, part-time, or career advancement opportunities. Meet with employers and resource organizations and jumpstart your career! JFCS Career Services will also offer free headshots during this event.

Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait with The Duquesne Wind Symphony
Join the ACFLAMH for a symphonic tribute to Abraham Lincoln at the Music Hall, featuring Aaron Copland’s beloved work, Lincoln Portrait. This special event celebrates the upcoming return of the Library’s nationally recognized Civil War Symposium later in the week.
Before the concert, you are invited to join guided tours of a true national treasure: The Capt. Thomas Espy Post, one of the country’s last remaining Grand Army of the Republic Posts.
A dessert and coffee reception will follow the performance in the Lincoln Gallery.

Carnegie Crafters – Craft Night at the Movies: “10 Things I Hate About You” (1999)
Join the Carnegie Crafters for a Craft Night at the Movies! Enjoy crafting in the comfortable Music Hall while we watch the classic 10 Things I Hate About You, with Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles. All crafts are encouraged, but please refrain from using any paints, glue, or any liquids or materials that could cause mess in our historic Music Hall. Food and drink are not permitted.
Doors open at 6:30 PM, and the movie will start at 7:00 PM.
No craft? No problem! You are welcome to join, but keep in mind that that the lights will be on. Please email carnegiecrafters@gmail.com with any questions.

“Our Battle Flags Were Tattered…” The Maryland Campaign: A Civil War Symposium
The Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall’s annual Civil War Symposium is returning for April 11 – 12, 2025. The 2025 symposium will focus on the 1862 Maryland Campaign, which culminated in the Battle of Antietam, the single bloodiest day in American history. Eight dynamic historians will explore the military, political, and social threads of this defining moment in our nation’s history.

Selah Labyrinth Meditation Walk
Join members of Carnegie Presbyterian Church’s New Hope Worship Center for an open meditation walk through the church’s Selah Labyrinth. Journey inward through a contemplative walk through the labyrinth’s twists and turns into the center and back out again, in a process similar to a spiritual or personal exploration. This event is beginner-friendly and non-denominational.
All ages are welcome, but we ask that guests maintain a calm and quiet demeanor while navigating the labyrinth.
No registration is necessary – please drop in any time between 6:30 and 7:30 PM!

Ukulele Strum-Along
Come strum with us! Join Amber Rozel of Steel City Ukuleles for a free introduction to the simple, versatile instrument known as the ukulele. Learn just a few simple chords, and you’ll be able to play hundreds of songs – no prior experience needed, and you don’t need to own your own ukulele! Meet other uke-enthusiasts and join our strum-along group!
The event will start with a special lesson for first-timers at 6:00 PM. If you already know your way around a ukulele, join us at 6:45 to play along!
